The Ins and Outs of Custom-Made Clothing

The following is a guest post from Maharani, a regular reader of this blog, who is sharing her experience with having her clothing custom made.  Awhile back, Maharani had suggested this option for me in response to my pants shopping difficulties.  Since I was intrigued by the custom clothing possibility but knew so little about it, I figured others would also be interested in learning more. So I asked Maharani to share her experiences in a guest post, and the rest is history!  Read on to learn lots of useful information about custom-made clothing and how it might be an option to consider for your wardrobe.

Closet Reorganization, Part Two

I didn’t expect to be doing another post on the topic of closet organization so soon, but I like to go with the flow as a blogger and write about things that are timely.  I received some very insightful comments on Friday’s post that caused me to think more deeply about the topic and make further changes to the way my closet is organized.

Today’s post addresses why I opted to shift my closet organization again after such a short time and outlines the changes I have made.  At the end of the post, I share some alternate closet organization methods offered by readers, as well as some useful links for additional information.

Colors of rainbow, clothes

I don’t believe there is one right way to organize a closet; we all have to do what’s right for us and that may change over time.  However, my hope is that reading about my process and that of others may help you determine what will work best for you. Continue reading

Some Thoughts and Links on Ethical Shopping

For much of my life, I shopped almost constantly and brought hundreds of new items into my closet each year.  Over time, I came to realize some of the negative consequences of my behavior, but I thought those deleterious effects were limited to the confines of my personal closet, bank account, and relationships.  It was only after I started my recovering shopaholic project that I became aware of the ways in which my overshopping was also harmful to people outside of my inner circle, as well as to the environment.

The Best of Recovering Shopaholic 2013

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a full year from when I started this blog on January 2, 2013.  Since that time, there have been 122 posts (including some fabulous guest posts!) and countless comments and emails from my wonderful readers.

I’ve grown and learned a great deal during the past year and will be sharing some of my insights in my upcoming yearly “wrap-up” posts.  But for today – the last post of the year – it’s time to look at “the best of 2013.”  Below I highlight the most popular posts of the year, as well as some of my personal favorites. I also revisit my most clicked outgoing links and share a few timely links you’ll want to check out as the year draws to a close.

The Best of 2013

A lot of people do top 10 lists at the end of the year, but I decided to buck with tradition and do top 12 lists instead.  After all, it’s a nice round number that corresponds to the months in the year, so I’m going with it! Continue reading

Useful Links on the Holidays and Shopping

As I’ve mentioned previously, I subscribe to a lot of magazines and blogs. Although I’m gradually paring things down in both areas, I still consume quite a bit of information.  Most recent articles have focused primarily on holiday deals and gift guides, but there have been some bright spots of refreshing content buried among the consumerist morass.

Holiday Shopping and Consumerism

This time of year is about more than gifts and shopping!

Since I haven’t done a “useful links” post in a while, I decided to share some of my favorite recent articles on the topics of  holidays and shopping with you today.  Some of these articles are from popular bloggers, so you may have already seen them, but I’m sharing them anyway because they’re just so good (and worth a second read!).
