The Cold, Hard Facts: The Missing Piece

When I started this blog in January, some of my early posts addressed some of the “cold, hard facts” of my compulsive shopping situation:

The Missing Link

I wanted to be as honest as possible with myself and my readers as I began my “Recovering Shopaholic” project.  However, I recently realized that I left out one very important piece of the puzzle:

How many items am I buying each year?”

How much are you buying?

Do you know how much you’re buying each year?

Mid-Year Closet Inventory: What I Have Now

I’ve spent a big chunk of time over the past few days trying on every single item in my wardrobe.  Although I’ve pared things down considerably since the beginning of the year, this was still no easy task!  Why did I do it?  After completing my Project 333 term and dressing with less for three months, I was ready to make a powerful dent in the girth of my wardrobe.  I’ve really learned “in my bones” that I don’t need tons and tons of clothes in order to dress well and have sufficient variety.

My January 2013 Closet

I will never have a closet this jam-packed again!

May Project 333 Summary & Accountability Update

As long-time readers of “Recovering Shopaholic” know, I have committed to posting monthly accountability summaries throughout 2013 (and possibly beyond).  These summaries help to keep me honest and include the following information:  what came into my wardrobe, what left, how much I spent, and how well I did in adhering to my shopping-related rules.  As I’m doing Project 333 during April through June, I’m also including summary information for that challenge in the accountability updates for those months.

Project 333 – May Summary

As the Project 333 interest level is high for many of my readers, I’ll start with that summary.

NOTE:  If you’d like to learn more about how to do the Project 333 challenge, I highly recommend the “Dress with Less” microcourse from Courtney Carver, the creator of Project 333.

I’ll kick off with my May numbers “in a nutshell”:

  • Number of Garments Worn during May:  33 (yay!)
  • Garments Worn 5 Times:  2  (black jeans, Gap trouser jeans)
  • Garments Worn 4 Times:  3  (cobalt cardigan, burgundy cardigan, Cabi jeans)
  • Garments Worn 3 Times:  2   (black skirt, striped cardigan)
  • Garments Worn Twice:  9
  • Garments Worn Once:  17

April Project 333 Summary & Accountability Update

For those who are new to my blog, I’ve committed to posting monthly accountability summaries in which I share what came into my wardrobe, what left, and how well I adhered to my budget and other shopping-related rules.  Knowing I will have to share this information with my readers every month helps to keep me on track.  As I’m doing Project 333 during April, May, and June, I’ll also include a summary for that challenge in my accountability updates for those months.

NOTE:  If you’d like to learn more about how to do the Project 333 challenge, I highly recommend the “Dress with Less” microcourse from Courtney Carver, the creator of Project 333.

Project 333 Summary

Since many of my readers found me via Project 333 and I know interest for that topic is high, I’ll start with the summary for my first month of the challenge.  Here are my numbers in a nutshell (click here for photos of my Project 333 garments):

  • Number of Garments Worn:  32
  • Garments Worn 4 Times:  1  (black jeans)
  • Garments Worn 3 Times:   4  (navy pants, Cabi jeans, burgundy cardigan, grey cardigan)

March 2013 Accountability

With all of my excitement and activity around Project 333, I almost forgot about my March accountability post!  I definitely want to keep up the monthly accountability posts, as they help me to stay responsible with my budget and shopping rules.  Knowing I’ll have to report to the “world” how I’m doing with my shopping keeps me honest!

Wardrobe Additions

I did add a few new items to my wardrobe during March, but these were far offset by the large number of pieces which were removed from my closet.  Because I returned several items in March, I allowed myself to purchase two items of clothing and two accessories instead of the mandated one of each (this is in line with my 2013 rules).

My first garment purchase was an orange anorak from Eddie Bauer that I’d been thinking about since my February visit to their store.  I am pleased with this buy, as the majority of my casual jackets are heavier in weight and I wanted some more lightweight pieces for warmer days.
