UPDATE: As of January 2018, I’m back to blogging! You can read more about it below, but I invite you to visit my new blog, Full Life Reflections, where I write about the journey towards happiness, peace, and fulfillment in today’s chaotic world. My new blog basically picks up where this one left off – on the “full life” side of the equation… I still write about wardrobe-related topics from time to time as well. Hope to see you there!
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope the year is off to a good start for all of you. It’s been over ten months since I pressed the pause button on this blog in February 2017. At that time, I didn’t know when or if I would be back to blogging, but I promised to keep you posted on my decisions in that regard. Yes, it has taken me a long time to provide an update, but I didn’t decide on what I would be doing until quite recently.
I actually didn’t expect to stay away for this many months, but the time went by quickly, as it is wont to do. As the months went by, I found myself missing blogging, but I felt confused as to whether or not I should resume writing “Recovering Shopaholic.” I definitely missed the connection with readers, as well as the self-expression and sense of purpose that blogging provided, but I no longer wanted to dedicate so much time and attention to writing about my wardrobe and shopping experiences. Although I still have issues in both areas and am still a recovering shopaholic as opposed to a recovered one, somewhere along the line writing about my journey with such openness and exacting details had become counterproductive for me. I found that focusing so acutely on the specifics of my wardrobe, purchases, and outfits kept me locked into the obsession and compulsion with clothes that I had struggled with for so many years.
Introducing My New Blog…
Over time, I really wanted to write more about subjects other than what this blog had become known for, and despite the fact that I would veer from the standard topics from time to time, I mostly stayed on the primary path I had forged for myself from the beginning. Even though the tagline of this blog from its inception was “Trade Your Full Closet for a Full Life,” it primarily centered on the full closet side of the equation and didn’t delve into full life topics all that often. I considered coming back and basically re-branding, but I ultimately decided to start a completely new blog that would be dedicated to the process of building a full – and fulfilling – life.
That new blog is now live and I invite you to check it out! It’s called “Full Life Reflections” and its tagline is “Striving for Happiness, Peace, and Fulfillment in a Chaotic World.”
You can learn more about this new blog and what it’s about by visiting the site, but here’s a basic summary… It’s a blog about life, specifically about living a fulfilling life: what that means, and the internal and external factors that often stand in the way of our experiencing the happiness and peace we want to feel. In many ways, it picks up where this blog left off but reverses the topic distribution. Whereas probably 80% of the posts here were on the topics of wardrobe management, shopping, and style and around 20% were on “full life” topics, the opposite will likely be the case with “Full Life Reflections.”
Additionally, even though I will continue to write about my experiences, struggles, and insights with the same degree of honesty you became accustomed to here, I don’t want the new blog to be only about my individual journey. Rather, I would like my posts to be the start of a dialogue among readers on topics that are meaningful to so many of us, such as intentional living, life balance, personal fulfillment, relationships, communication, productivity, self-care, success, aging, hobbies and interests, and much more. Some of my posts will be longer and more detailed like most “Recovering Shopaholic” essays were, but others will be considerably shorter and represent just a few opening thoughts on a topic I’ve been pondering and would like to engage with others about. While I have lots of ideas for what “Full Life Reflections” will be about, I expect it to evolve over time as a result of the comments, feedback, and suggestions I receive from readers.
“Recovering Shopaholic” Will Remain Online
Although I won’t be publishing new posts on “Recovering Shopaholic” anymore, I plan to leave the site up over the long-term as a resource for those who are struggling with compulsive shopping and wardrobe management and can benefit from what was shared here. To aid in this effort, I have relocated the site to a lower-priced platform to help keep my costs down moving forward. I plan to make some modifications to the site, but most of the content will remain intact. I have copied some of the posts to “Full Life Reflections,” such as those on photography, minimalism, and life goals, as they are a better fit for that blog than this one. While those posts are currently still online here as well, I will soon be removing them from this site. However, the posts related to wardrobe management, shopping, and style will remain here indefinitely, as will the Start Here, Recovery Tips, and Resources pages (I will be creating new and more comprehensive Resources pages on “Full Life Reflections,” too). You can always refer to my Article Archives or use the Search box or Category listings on the sidebar to locate information about your key interest areas.
I thank you for your support, encouragement, and commentary over the years. I hope many of you will decide to follow me over at “Full Life Reflections.” You may subscribe to that blog via the “Follow” widget in the right sidebar there or by adding the site URL (https://fulllifereflections.com) to the feed reader of your choice. I look forward to continuing to connect with you over the months and years to come and to helping each other to enjoy a fuller and happier life experience.
Blessings to you and all the best,
